On August 28, 2020, the world learned that Chadwick Boseman had died after privately waging war against colon cancer for four years. He was officially laid to rest this past week right outside his South Carolina hometown.
His family, friends, and fans alike all mourn at Boseman leaving this world much too soon.
Boseman’s portrayal as T’Challa, the Black Panther, was — and continues to be — pivotal in our time. The movie helped usher in some much needed representation and diversity in Hollywood, and its effects have spiraled beautifully.
Personally, it’s my favorite Marvel movie.
What’s the positive spin on the death of a beloved actor? Take a look at the impact his roles, his personality, his very life has had on not only those around him but those who have consumed the medium he has helped produce throughout his short time here on Earth. There has been nothing but praise for Boseman’s life, at how he has touched others both on and off the screen. Even in death, he continues to be an inspiration to many, for his commitment to work and life all while sick.
And, while his last words as King T’Challa may have been from the scriptwriter, the way Boseman delivered these iconic lines showcases his poise, quiet confidence, and pride. These words are poignant at this time with Boseman’s passing, and the truth of these words should be taken to heart always:
“Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another, as if we were one single tribe.”
Rest in peace, King.
